Feeding bellies, not bins

Food waste is huge problem in the UK with 1/3 of all wasted food still being fit for human consumption, with this in mind BAKO North Western have engaged in a partnership with The Real Junk Food Project located in Wigan. The project aims to prevent edible food reaching landfill by making it available to our community. Taking its name from the local dialect for ‘very hungry’ the Fur Clemt Café allows the local community to decide the cost of their meal on a pay as you feel basis.

Recognising the important responsibility BAKO North Western has, with regard to reducing food waste and supporting our local community, it was a perfect partnership in which we are proud to support.

BAKO North Western donates a significant proportion of our short dated stock as well as food that is unsuitable for sale to our customers. After recently visiting the Fur Clemt Café and witnessing firsthand the impact on the local community combined with the reduction in our food waste we are humbled to be in association with such a worthy cause.

If your business is considering its own food waste, please consider supporting this project, by locating your local scheme at http://therealjunkfoodproject.org
